Stacking Wood

 Tossin' Firewood
Part of living in "these parts," as my brother-in-law calls the Spokane/Chattaroy area, is preparing for winter. In our family, that means cutting, splitting, and stacking a LOT of firewood. Dad doesn't like to run the electric furnace, so the entire 2 story, 4-bedroom house is heated with a wood stove in the family room. Said wood stove is my favorite feature of the house in winter. It's customary to stand so close to it that your pants, if they don't melt, will burn your legs as soon as you bend. Then you rotate slowly, without bending the legs, as if on a spit or a marshmallow stick. Daddy hauled home the first cord (a nice big pickup truck load) of split wood today and we stacked it. Carter and Dolly (Katie's dog) supervised. There's lots more to come. Stacking wood is a nice kind of exercise - much better than going to the gym.
